CIS No. 5 Axewomen improve to 5-0 with win over UPEI

(Charlottetown, PE) On a cold and windy afternoon at MacAdam Field the UPEI Panthers battled the CIS Ranked No. 5 Acadia Axewomen to a 42-17 loss.

With the win the Axewomen improve to 5-0 on the season, while the Panthers drop to 1-4.

The first half started with some very physical play between both teams. The Panthers battled hard with the CIS Ranked Axewomen, but still trailed 27-10 at half. The second half picked up right where they left off, with more hard hits and great playing by both teams. It took over twenty minutes for the first score of the second half, but both offenses eventually found their touch and the Axewomen won the game 42-17.

The UPEI Panthers received tries from Scrum-Half Emily Keen and Inside-Centre Holly Hartlen. The Panthers Amy Andrews finished the scoring with two converts and a Penalty Kick.

The Axewomen received tries from: Sarah Boudreau, Emma Delery, Angie Govier, Gillian Bersma, Laura Klingenberg, Tamara Dondi, and Molly Labenski. Jenny Matheson rounded out the scoring by kicking two converts, increasing her lead as the AUS leading scorer.

Outside-Centre Maddie MacKenzie continued her great season by taking home player of the game honors.

The Axewomen (5-0) will host the St. FX X-Women (4-1) in their final game of the season on October 18, and will likely be a battle for top spot in the league.
