(Halifax, NS) The Dalhousie Tigers took the Sherbrooke Vert et Or to a fifth and final set but could not come away with a win in their second game of the day. Sherbrooke won the match by a score of 20-25, 25-17, 25-22, 17-25, 15-11.
Anna Dunn-Suen had a monster first set for the Dalhousie Tigers recording seven kills and 3 digs. The Tigers were in control of the set from the very first serve starting off the match on a 5-0 run and never looking back.
At one point Dalhousie opened a 17-8 lead but Sherbrooke rallied back to keep it interesting as the Tigers took the set 25-20.
Sherbrooke never trailed in the second set taking it 25-17 and knotting the match up at one set a piece. The two sides were basically tied for majority of the set, trading points back-and-forth until the Vert et Or were finally able to get some separation going on a 7-0 run.
Camille Charest-Gagn serving was essential for the Vert et Or in winning the second set as she led the 7-0 run with a couple easy points off aces.
After having a slow start offensively Sherbrooke started to figure it out in the third set. Similar to the second set the Vert et Or took advantage of a quick lapse by the Tigers to build a lead and held on to it.
Trailing by as many as seven at one point the Tigers managed to fight off five set points before falling 25-22.
Sherbrooke looked like the dominant team heading into the fourth set with a 2-1 lead.
In the fourth set the Tigers managed to get things back on track with a 25-17 win forcing a fifth set. Dalhousie was in control of the whole set closing out the final points with purpose.
A good stretch of serves by Courtney Baker gave the Tigers a nice cushion making the set relatively carefree in a must win situation.
Sarah-Jeanne Meunier had a huge hit that gave the Vert et Or their first lead of the fifth set at 7-6. The Jeanne Meunier strike put some life into her side as they stretched the lead to 9-6.
The Tigers could never comeback from the three point deficit as Sherbrooke won the final set 15-11 and the match 3-2.
Dalhousie now 0-2 to start the AUS-RSEQ interlock will look to get a win tomorrow against Laval at 1pm in the Dalplex. Sherbrooke takes on Saint Mary's at 1pm tomorrow.
