(Halifax, NS) After suffering an overtime loss on Friday night to the Tigers, the UNB Varsity Reds had an offensive explosion dropping the Tigers 73-45 at the Dalplex on Saturday evening. The Varsity Reds shot out the lights going 8 for 17 from downtown and shooting 52.6% from the field.

It was a slow start to the first quarter as neither side could really generate anything offensively. Dalhousie found their groove first, jumping out to an 11-6 lead after Megan Thompson drained a corner three pointer.

The Varsity Reds rallied quickly as Caroline Healy would hit a three to tie the game at 11.

After one quarter it was tied up at 11.

Both teams came out scoring, trading buckets back and forth for the first couple possessions in the second quarter.

Grace Wade put the Varsity Reds up 21-18 after stealing the ball and running the length of the court for an easy lay up. The Tigers would score five unanswered points to hold a 23-21 lead at the half.

UNB was on fire in the second half putting up 52 points compared to the Tigers who managed 22 points.

In the third quarter UNB started to find their stroke hitting 5 three balls in the frame. Tessa Stammberger did her best to keep the Varsity Reds lead in reach going 4-4 from behind the arc in the quarter.

After a strong quarter UNB was up 45-39.

The Varsity Reds ran away with the win in the fourth quarter opening the frame on a 16-0 run. They would continue to shoot well all the way to the buzzer taking the game 73-45.

Tessa Stammberger continued her great start to the 2015-2016 season with 24 points, 6 rebounds and 5 steals.

The Varsity Reds attack was spread out as four players reached double-digit points.

After splitting the weekend set both teams sit 1-1. Dalhousie will host the Memorial Sea-Hawks next week at the Dalplex for a two game series while UNB will host Cape Breton on Saturday.
