Panthers avoid elimination force Game 3 against Aigles Bleus
The University of Prince Edward Island Panthers (1-1) found the target twice in the middle period during the second Atlantic University Sport men's hockey game best of 3 quarterfinal series and then went on to a 4-1 win against the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus (1-1) Saturday at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena on the Moncton campus in front of 987 spectators.
MONCTON, NB—The University of Prince Edward Island Panthers (1-1) found the target twice in the middle period during the second Atlantic University Sport men's hockey game best of 3 quarterfinal series and then went on to a 4-1 win against the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus (1-1) Saturday at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena on the Moncton campus in front of 987 spectators.
The third and decisive game will be played Monday afternoon at 2p.m. at the Cornwall rink on the island province.
In the first period, the Panthers opened the scoring at 9:26 thanks to No. 23 Carson Mackinnon. Shortly before the end of the period, the Blue and Gold leveled the chances when Olivier-Luc Haché (Jacob Dion, Jeremy Michel) scored on the power play at 16: 31. It didn't take long for the Panthers to regain the lead, scoring a second goal at 17:12 with Carson Mackinnon's second.
The second period was again the black sheep of the Aigles Bleus who allowed two goals without scoring. The visitors' third goal at 11:08 came from Darian Pilon, who gave them a 3-1 lead. The Panthers scored their 4th when Kyle Maksimovich found the target at 17:32. In the third period, the strong defensive play of both teams didn't allow any goals. Étienne Montpetit had 28 shots in a losing cause while Jonah Capriotti handled 33 shots for the win. UPEI was 0 for 3 on the power play and Moncton, 1 for 11.
