Axemen team effort tops Capers

WOLFVILLE – The Acadia Axemen (3-2) led from start to finish as they topped the Cape Breton Capers (3-2) 106-102 on Friday night in front of nearly 600 fans at Stu Aberdeen Court.

Glen Cox (Scotsburn, NS) led all scorers with a 30-point night. Cape Breton's Shak Pryce (Pickering, ON) wasn't far off, ending the night with a team-high 28 points for the Capers.

Starters were big in the game, with each team having four players in double digits.

For Acadia, Thomas MacDonald (Rothesay, NB) had the team's only double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds. He also finished the night with four blocks. Rounding out double digit scoring for the Axemen were Samou Brayan Kone (Thiais, Ile-de-France) with 10 points, player of the game Demeric Mercer (Halifax, NS) with 23 and Gabe Davignon (Whites Lake, NS) with 12.

The Capers double-double came from Shaquai Manswell's (Ajax, ON) 11 points and 11 rebounds, while Mitchell Mersereau (Sydney, NS), Justus Peuser (Geisenheim, Germany) and Tyson Cato (St. Catharines, ON) had double digit scoring outputs in a starting role.

Both teams meet again on Saturday at 6 p.m.
