(Halifax, NS) – Nearing the half-way mark of the AUS soccer season, the Dalhousie Tigers were hosting l'Université de Moncton in men's soccer action. After a scoreless first half, the Tigers had two well timed runs leading to scoring plays, and a 2-0 victory.

The Tigers were the first to generate a scoring chance in the opening 10 minutes of the match after a nice run by Ahmed Abokar (Halfiax, NS) resulted in the ball being laid-up perfectly for Freddy Bekkers (Halifax, NS) to take a swing, but Christian Masimengo (Dieppe, NB) got the better of him with a diving stop.

Moncton was clearly a team that liked to utilize the counter attack, changing the pace and direction of play quickly on the change of possession.

On a set-piece in the attacking end, the ball deflected out to the top of the box where Youssouf Diabate (Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire) sent a low drive toward the net, but Ben Grondin (Calgary, AB) was in perfect position to make the stop.

The teams headed into the break after the first 45 with no score.

The Tigers opened the second half in a fury, with Quinn Park (Calgary, AB) making a great run deep into the attacking end, and sending a perfectly placed ball back out front for Freddy Bekkers to finish off and open the scoring.

After being the first team to find the back of the net, the Tigers were content to keep the pace of play to their liking, and control the possession for much of the second half.

Controlling the pace allowed the Tigers to pick their opportunities to attack, opening up the back line, and Enrico Rodriguez (Halifax, NS) splitting the middle defenders with a well-timed run. Rodriguez was rewarded with the ball at his feet and an open chance to tap it into the corner to give the Tigers a two-goal advantage.

Moncton countered well at times, but were unable to generate a shot on goal in the second half, and as a result, the Tigers took the 2-0 victory.

The Subway Player of the Game was Tigers rookie Alex Knesaurek commanding the backfield.

The Tigers are back in action tomorrow afternoon when they host Memorial in afternoon action. Moncton will also be home tomorrow when they take on UNB.
