Hawks Take Weekend Series Over Aigles Bleues

MONCTON – The 2016-2017 regular season of the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues (9-11=18pts, 4th position) came to an end on the weekend with a win and two defeats at the hands of the Memorial University Sea-Hawks (14-6=28pts, 2nd position), Sunday in Atlantic University Sport women's volleyball action, at the CEPS in Moncton. 

Sunday in the third match in as many days, the Sea-Hawks were 3-1 winners over the Blue and Gold by 25-22, 25-23, 19-25 and 27-25 scores. Rachelle Lemoine was named Aigles Subway player of the game. Moncton grabs fourth place in the standings and will meet first place Dalhousie University Tigers (19-1=38pts) in semi-final action at the Subway AUS women's volleyball championship to be hosted by the Saint Mary's University Huskies, in Halifax, March 3 and 4. The Sea-Hawks and the Huskies will battle it out in the other semi-final with both winners advancing to the Championship game, on Saturday. The AUS champion will advance to the 2017 U SPORTS Women's Volleyball Championship, being hosted by Ryerson University in Toronto, Ont., March 17-19.    

The Sea-Hawks were 3-0 winners on Saturday and Moncton won 3-1 on Friday. Catherine Guitard, Judith Desjardins and Rachelle Lemoine, five seasons and Alyssa Turenne, four, were presented with their jersey or a computer bag before the game for their years playing in the Aigles Bleues program.  

''We played quite well this weekend,'' stated Moncton coach Monette Boudreau-Carroll. The games and the sets gave close scores all weekend. We finished top 4 and that was our objective this season. Anything can happen at the AUS championship. We have two weeks to get ready. We believe in our chances against the Tigers. Our last two games went to five sets.''
