Sea-Hawks edge Axewomen to earn 2nd seed

(St. John's, NL) – The Memorial Sea-Hawks have clinched the 2nd overall seed in the AUS after a 1-0 victory over the Acadia Axewomen in St. John's, NL.

Going in to today's match the Sea-Hawks and Axewomen were separated by just three points in the standings.  Memorial needed a win or tie to secure the 2nd overall seed in the AUS.  Acadia needed a win to pass the Sea-Hawks in the standings.

Memorial was able to strike first, when Hannah Rivkin found Spencer Wilkins in the 13th minute to give the Sea-Hawks a 1-0 advantage.  Memorial continued to stay in the offensive end for the majority of the first half and outshot the Axewomen by an 8-3 advantage.  The Sea-Hawks were unable to find the back of the net again and the halftime score was 1-0 for the home side.

Acadia pushed hard the entire second half looking for the equalizer, outshooting Memorial 9-1.  However, Memorial keeper Taylor Doyle was up to the challenge and was able to record the clean sheet.

With the win the Sea-Hawks now advance to the semifinal of the AUS Women's Soccer Championship this Friday in Sydney, NS.  Acadia will face the Dalhousie Tigers on Thursday evening in the quarterfinal.
