Axewomen remain undefeated with win at MUN

(St. John's, NL) The Acadia Axewomen beat the Memorial Sea-Hawks by a score of 78-66on Saturday night at The Field House in AUS Women's Basketball action.

The game was tightly matched through the first half, with the Sea-Hawks and Axewomen exchanging leads throughout. It was the Axewomen who were able to stay in front at thebreak with a 5-point lead. The Axewomen were lead by Alexandra Berry, who scored 10 first quarter points, and Paloma Anderson, who scored 8 points in the second quarter.

For the Sea-Hawks it was regular season leading scorer Sydney Stewart, who had 10 firsthalf points for the home side. Lindsay Taylor also chipped in with 6 at the break.

The Sea-Hawks came out strong in the third quarter, as Lindsay Taylor knocked down twoearly three pointers to give the Sea-Hawks the lead. Acadia was able to re-group and takeback the lead before the end of the quarter. Once again it was Alexandra Berry leading the way for the Axewomen as she scored 7 points in the frame.

In the final quarter the Axewomen proved to be too strong and stretched the lead to 13 points. Memorial chipped away and cut the lead to 9, but that was as close as they could get, as Acadia finished with a 78 to 66 victory.

Teams are back in action tomorrow at 11am at The Field House.
