Sea-Hawks & X-Women Split Weekend Series

Sea-Hawks & X-Women Split Weekend Series

(St. John's, NL) – The Memorial Sea-Hawks were defeated 3-0 by the StFX X-Women on Saturday afternoon at King George V pitch.

After dropping the first match of the weekend last night, the X-Women responded with a strong effort from the opening whistle.

Memorial led the first attack of the game, but were unable to convert on back-to-back corner kick attempts. The X-Women settled in and began to put pressure on the Sea-Hawks back line.

The visiting X-Women were rewarded in the 12th minute of action with a goal off the foot of Olivia Czipf (Thunder Bay, ON) after receiving a great pass from Chloe Brennan (Brookside, NS). The X-Women would strike again in the 32nd minute. Brennan again setup the goal, this time the finisher was Mercy Myles (Accra, Ghana), who beat Sydney Walsh (St. John's, NL) on the short side.

The X-Women would go into the halftime break up 2-0.

The Sea-Hawks looked to turn the tables in the 2nd half, with multiple scoring opportunities in the first 25 minutes of the half. X goalkeeper Rachel Hawkins (Calgary, AB) held her ground and recorded the clean sheet for the visitors.

StFX would score one more time to make the final 3-0.

Subway Player of the Game was Catherine Kennedy.

Both teams will head to Sydney, NS this week for the 2018 AUS Soccer Championships, hosted by Cape Breton. The Sea-Hawk will matchup with the Dalhousie Tigers, while the X-Women will face the Saint Mary's Huskies.
