Huskies go to 7-0 with 84-64 win over X-Men

(HALIFAX, N.S.)—The Saint Mary's Huskies defeated the visiting StFX X-Men 84-64 on Friday night from the Homburg Centre and remain undefeated in Atlantic University Sport men's basketball action at 7-0.

Kemar Alleyne (Scarborough, ON) paced all scorers with 20 points for SMU, the U Sports No. 5-ranked team in the country.

Saint Mary's took an early 19-11 lead after ten minutes and extended their cushion to 38-26 at halftime with a 19-15 second quarter score.

Alleyne had nine points in the third quarter as both teams pushed the floor, with SMU outscoring StFX 24-23 in the frame and led 62-49 after thirty minutes.

A 22-15 SMU fourth quarter saw SMU enjoy a twenty-point victory, 84-64.

Justin Andrew (Hamilton, ON) paced all X-Men with 19 points and had ten coming in the third quarter in a losing effort.

Thomas Legallais (Cornwall, ON) and Daniel Passley (Mississauga, ON) each had 10 points in StFX's loss while Azaro Roker (Nassau, Bahamas) had nine and Atik Gilao (Brampton, ON) had eight off the bench.

StFX falls to 3-4 in conference play.

Qyemah Gibson (Nassau, Bahamas) finished with 16 points in 23 minutes coming off the bench for SMU while teammates Kordeiro James (Woodbridge, ON) had 12 points and Brent Martindale (Kingston, ON) had 13. 

Nico Brauner (Hettenhain, Germany) had 10 points and nine rebounds for SMU.

Both teams play next week with StFX in a home and home series with the 4-3 Dalhousie Tigers January 9 and 11 while SMU hosts 3-4 UPEI January 11-12.

Tip-off for all games is 8 p.m.
