Alex Woods had a goal and three assists to help power the Tommies to a 5-2 win over the Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleues in AUS women's hockey action Saturday night.

The Tommies controlled the pace of play early on, leading to an early goal from Lauren Legault to give the team a 1-0 lead.

They didn't stop there as Olivia Reid scored her first of the night to extend the Tommies lead to 2-0 three minutes later.

The Aigles Bleus cut the lead in half when forward Katryne Villeneuve found the back of the net on a shot from the top of the circle to bring them back to within one goal.

Reid restored the Tommies two goal lead just one minute later, something head coach Peter Murphy said was a staple of the program.

"This was something that we were known for in previous years," he said. "It's nice to see that we're getting this back to our game and to see the girls battle back."

The goal marked Reid's eighth of the season. The rookie is enjoying a recent hot streak on the top line with Emily Oleksuk and Lauren Henman.

"We sat the three of them down and watched some video," Murphy said, "and once she started doing that she's become a force for us."

The Tommies added another tally for a 4-1 lead at the start of the third period on a goal from newcomer Megan Pardy.

"She's a really physical player, and she's a big shooter," Murphy said. "She likes to set up goals just as much as she likes to score them."

The Aigles Bleus responded with Villeneuve's second of the game, which cut the lead in half once again.

The Tommies countered once again with Woods finding the back of the net for her fourth point of the night. Her stellar performance led to her selection as Subway Player of the Game.

"She has good nights most nights," Murphy said. "She wanted to have a big game tonight so she was very energetic."

The Tommies are back in action next weekend when they visit the St. Francis Xavier X-Women Friday night in Antigonish., while the Aigles Bleues will take on the Mount Allison Mounties at home.
