Cheveldave shutout helps Huskies top Aigles Bleus 3-0

(Halifax, NS) The Saint Mary's University Huskies beat the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus 3-0 on Wednesday at the Halifax Forum to start off the 2nd term.  The win gives the Huskies a 9-8-1 record good for 19 points and fourth overall in the AUS. The loss drops the Aigles Bleus to 7-11-1 with 15 points as they sit tied for the fifth spot in the standings.

Cole Cheveldave (Calgary, AB) made 24 saves to pick up the shutout and win for the Huskies. He improved his record to 2-4 on the season.

Hunter Garlent (Thorold, ON) (8), Mark Triccett (Baddeck, NS) (1) and Ben Duffy (Lower Sackville, NS) (10) scored the Huskies goals.

Brandon Thibeau (Riverview, NB) made 30 saves for the Aigles Bleus and had his record drop to 6-8 on the season.

The Huskies opened the scoring at the 8:11 mark of the second. Working on the power play in the Aigles Bleus zone Anthony Repaci (Toronto, ON) fed Garlent in the right corner, Garlent sent it back to the blue line for Calder Brooks (Emerald Park, SK), Brooks walked the line to the middle of the ice and slid it over to Garlent now on the right point, Garlent took a step to the top of the circle and wired a slap shot high blocker for the 1-0 lead.

The home side made it 2-0 with another power play goal just under three minutes later at the 11:01 mark of the frame. Triccett had the puck just inside the blue line in the middle of the ice and fed Duffy at the top of the left circle, Duffy flipped a pass back to Triccett who ripped a clapper home high glove for his first of the season.

An empty net goal by Duffy at 18:50 of the third sealed the Huskies win. Austyn Hardie (Montreal, QC) won a draw in the Huskies zone and Taylor Burke (Halifax, NS) quickly fed the puck up to Duffy who carried through the neutral zone and made no mistake shooting from the Aigles Bleus line into the open cage.

The Huskies were two of five on the man advantage while the Aigles Bleus went zero of four.

Overall shots were 34-24 in favour of the Huskies.
