The Dalhousie Tigers women's basketball team welcomed the UNB REDS to Dalplex on Saturday evening as part of the Tigers Shoot for the Cure Night. The REDS defeated the Tigers 88-52 to sweep the weekend series.

The REDS got out to a hot start opening the first quarter with a 10-2 run before the Tigers could cut the lead to just one point at 10-9. UNB would find themselves back up by seven, leading 18-11 with several minutes left in the first quarter, before Kelsey Crocker (St. John's, NL) hit a big three-point shot to make it a four-point game. The REDS would go on one last run in the quarter, capped off by an impressive bucket and drawn foul from Jayda Veinot (Port Williams, NS), making it 26-14. Both teams would make a few more shots before the quarter ended with the REDS carrying a 27-17 lead to the second.

The game would follow a similar pace into the next quarter as it advanced to 33-22, with the REDS slightly growing the margin of their lead. Kylee Speedy (Fredricton, NB) hit a three-point shot, making it 38-22 in favour of the REDS. The lead only grew from here as UNB kept making shots, pushing it to 48-26 nearing halftime.

A spark of hope came from a clean middle lane drive to the bucket for Emma Ward (Moncton, NB), but the REDS remained heavily in control 67-35 with two minutes left in the third quarter. UNB continued to rack up the points and extend their lead as Speedy hit a three-point shot to push the game to 72-39 as the third quarter concluded.

Dalhousie's Jasenda Horsman (Truro, NS) started the final quarter with a nice drive to the bucket as the Tigers continued to push, despite the intimidating score of 76-43 for the REDS in the fourth quarter. UNB would respond as Ellen Hatt (Fall River, NS) would seal it for the REDS with a free break extending it to 84-44 as the game essentially came to a close.

Katie Butts (Ottawa, ON) took home the Subway player of the game honours in UNB's win.

The Tigers drop to 1-14 on the season and are back in action against Acadia, next Friday in Wolfville.

The Reds improve to 9-5 and will look to keep it rolling next against the Panthers at UPEI next Thursday.
