Sea-Hawks push home winning streak to 13

The Sea-Hawks took their third in a row to sweep Acadia's Axewomen this weekend, defeating them 3 sets to 1. The win makes it a staggering 13 in a row for the Sea-Hawks at home overall. They were able to fend off a motivated Acadia squad that looked hungry from the moment things got underway.

The inspired Axewomen, looking to avoid a sweep, put pressure on the Hawks all afternoon but they were never able to take control in the match. They could not end Memorial's winning streak, which now stands at 7. Despite the loss, Acadia acquitted themselves nicely in this one, pushing the Sea-Hawks to the brink before finally faltering in the 4th set.

Jill Snow led the way for the Sea-Hawks in both points and kills, with 20 and 17, adding 3 service aces in the winning effort. Sarah Dawe and Catherine Ducey contributed 3 blocks a piece, part of Memorial's strong defending at the net. For Acadia, Micaela Sabean was the high woman with 14.5 points and 12 kills for her Axewomen. Fiona McGuinty also put forth a brilliant effort in the loss with her 7 blocks.

After two matches that ended after the third set to start the weekend series, Acadia looked much more focused and organized in this match. They looked dominant in stretches against the Sea-Hawks but could never seem to pull away. Surely this will be a tough one to swallow for Acadia, who put together a great effort despite the loss.

This loss drops them to 3-10 on the season, now 6 points behind Moncton and Saint Mary's. They play Saint Mary's this coming Friday, and Dalhousie on Saturday. Memorial is off to New Brunswick next weekend for a 3 game set against the Varsity Red's. All games can be watched on AUStv.com.
