Huskies fall 3-0 to Tigers

(HALIFAX, NS)—The U Sports No. 5 Dalhousie Tigers swept the host Saint Mary's Huskies 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-17) on Saturday afternoon in Atlantic university sport women's volleyball action from the Homburg Centre.

Dalhousie took the first set 25-22 in a wild back and forth set as the Tigers led by as many as 10 points in the middle of the set before SMU went on a six-point run and trailed Dal by two, 21-19. DAL closed out the set on a 4-3 spurt.

The Tigers doubled up SMU early 8-4 in the second set and extended their lead thru out the set, winning 25-16.

The third set saw Saint Mary's take a few early leads (2-1, 7-6) before Dal went on multiple runs of no bigger than four to take the final set 25-17.

Julie Moore (Halifax, NS) paced Dal's offence with 13 kills, 34 total attacks and 14.0 points while Victoria Haworth (Waverly, NS) added five kills, 10 total attacks and 12.5 points.

With the win Dal improves to 17-1 in conference play while SMU falls to 11-6 as both teams have clinched post-season berths next month.

Anna Watt (Calgary, AB) had eight kills and 26 total attacks for SMU while Kristina Alder (Brampton, ON) and Behany Smith (Moncton, NB) each added seven kills.

Up next for the Tigers is a February 16th home tilt versus the 13-5 Acadia Axewomen set for 7 p.m.

Saint Mary's plays their final regular season home game tomorrow at 2 p.m. versus the 4-13 Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues.

Saint Mary's wraps up the regular season February 17-18 in New Brunswick versus the 0-17 UNB Varsity Reds.
