Moncton, NB - The Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus took a 5-0 lead in the first period then held on off an impressive counter-attack by the STFX X-Men to finally post a 7-5 win at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena on Saturday evening.

First star of the game Jeremy Lapointe scored two of the first period goals, including one on the power play. Maxime Boudreau got the ball rolling 52 seconds into the game with a surprise shot, and Rémy Anglehart and William Basque each contributed a goal. Four of the Moncton goals were completed in the span of less than eight minutes.

The X-Men woke up in the second period with a new goalie and led the period 2-1 with goals from Declan Smith and Matthew Philip, the latter on the power play. Denis Toner had the Aigles Bleus' sixth and game-winning goal at 9:19 of the second.

The X-Men then responded with three straight unanswered goals in the third period to get within a goal of the Aigles Bleus. Philip – the second star of the game – scored his second goal at 4:56, and Charlie Callaghan tallied six minutes later. Both came on the power play cut the deficit to 6-4, then Liam Hawel scored at 18:02 as the X-Men pulled their goalie in favor of a sixth attacker.

The game's third star Jérémy Michel took a lot of the pressure off with his team's seventh goal on the night, scoring an empty netter with 44 seconds left to play.

Olivier Adam was busy in the Moncton net and had 36 saves for the win. Lucas Pfeil saw 16 shots in the first period and allowed five goals. Joseph Raaymakers took over in the second period and faced 11 shots, giving up one goal.

The X-Men were 3-for-9 on the power play and the Aigles Bleus were 2-for-3.

The loss marks the X-Men's fifth straight, while Moncton came back from loss on Friday night.

The Aigles Bleus are on the road next weekend when they take on the Acadia Axemen on Friday night in Wolfville. The X-Men are back in action Wednesday night when they travel to Halifax to face the Dalhousie Tigers.
