Penalty kick seals win for Huskies 1-0 over Moncton

(HALIFAX, N.S.)—The Saint Mary's Huskies used a late goal from fullback Itai Kuwodza in the 83^rd minute to seal the victory on Friday evening over the Université de Moncton in Atlantic University Sport women's action from Huskies Stadium.

Kuwodza, the Harare, was pushed from behind just inside the Aigles Bleues' box as Moncton was whistled for the foul.

Kuwodza—who came in as a substitute—made no mistake with her right boot as it fired the ball past keeper Chelsea Burnham (St-Jean, NB) for the lone goal of the match.

Both teams were scoreless at the half, with SMU outshooting Moncton 5-4 in the half and 10-9 for the match.

Each keeper made four saves in the first-half as Kyanna Gilks (Halifax, NS) finished with eight saves in the win and Burnham had six.

Saint Mary's improves to 5-4-1, good for 16 points and sit tied for third with Dal with two games left.

Burnham finished with six saves in the loss for Moncton, who fall to 1-9-0 and have three points.

SMU midfielder Jamie Kennedy (Fall River, NS) was named Player of the Game.

Both teams return to action this weekend with SMU hosting Mount Allison (1-7-1) October 20 and Memorial University (3-2-3) visits Moncton October 21.
