Hawks outlast Huskies at home

The Sea-Hawks fended off a hungry Huskies team in 4th quarter to pull off the upset in Saturday night's game.

The Sea-Hawks started the night off hot on a 12-5 run in the first quarter, where the Huskies looked to be unable to find any kind of shooting rhythm. Meanwhile, the Sea-Hawks looked to be in control from the start against the previously undefeated St. Mary's team.

After some question about their rebounding coming into the weekend, Memorial worked hard on the glass, grabbing 13 offensive rebounds leading to 13 second chance points. The story on the glass, however, was Shanieka Wood. She pulled down 21 boards, adding 12 points for the double-double in the loss.

Despite Wood's incredible night, the Sea-Hawks were able to lead wire to wire and take down the top team in the conference. Lindsay Taylor's 3-point shooting had a hand in keeping the Huskies at bay, as she knocked down 4 of her 9 shots from beyond the arc.

It was Taylor's 3 late in the 2nd quarter that extended to lead out to 12 as St. Mary's looked to be making a push that reenergized the team. The Sea-Hawks never looked back from there.

St. Mary's will look to avenge the loss tomorrow at noon. You can watch live on AUStv.ca.
