Huskies fall 2-0 to Tigers to end season

(Halifax, NS)--The visiting Dalhousie Tigers used two Meagan McKenna (Halifax, NS) goals to defeat the Saint Mary's Huskies 2-0 Friday evening in AUS women's soccer action.

Mckenna's first tally came in the first-half off a long shot by teammate Brenna Kettlewell (Quispamsis, NB) in the 29th minute.

Kettlewell's low-screaming shot forced SMU goalie Ashley Blank (L 0-6-0) to the ground, making one of her six saves in what can only be described as unpleasant weather conditions.

The rebound found the boot of McKenna, whose chip-shot from point-blank range was saved by Blank and credit to McKenna for following up with the rebound, scoring her first of the year.

A 67th minute free-kick saw the Tigers score their second of the game.

McKenna's low rocket from 25-yards out bounced once and beat Blank for the 2-0 win.

With the win Dal (4-6-2 12 points) clinched the sixth and final seed for next weekend's AUS Women's Soccer Championships hosted by Acadia University.

Dal keeper Hannah Noseworthy (St. John's, NL) made six saves and improves her record to 4-1-1.

SMU's graduating players are Mary Bennett (Vernon, BC), Jessie MacPherson (Dartmouth, NS) and Celina Cavadini (Halifax, NS) are 4th-year players.
