Sea-Hawks downed by Vert et Or

(Halifax, N.S.) - In one of two opening matches of the AUS-RSEQ men's volleyball interlock at Dalhousie University, The Sherbrooke Vert et Or beat the Memorial Sea-Hawks 3-0  (25-17, 25-23, 25-20).

They traded points early on in the first set, and seemed pretty evenly matched until just after the technical time out when the Vert et Or pulled away to take it 25-17.

It was more of the same in the second set, with Memorial taking a lead after the technical time out. They led by as many as three points, but Sherbrooke battled back and took the lead on a couple of Sea-Hawk errors. Sherbrooke went on to take the second set 25-23.

Down, but not out, the Sea-Hawks battled hard in the third, earning a 12-7 lead on the serving of Cody Harvey (Logy Bay, N.L). A series of errors saw their lead get smaller and smaller as the Vert et Or went on a five-point run to make it 16-15 Memorial at the technical time out.

Memorial had a solid start in the third, earning an eight-point run on the serving of Harvey to make it 12-7. Both teams would go on to trade points until a series of errors by Memorial gave Sherbrooke the edge and the set by a score of 25-20.

Mathieu Ouellet (St-Georges-de-Beauce, Q.C.) had 11 kills and three digs for Sherbrooke while Pierre Luc Marquis Aube (Ste-Marguerite, Q.C.) had 26 assists.

Memorial's Liam Power (Lower Sackville, N.S.) had 10 kills and three digs.

In their next games, Sherbrooke will face UNB while Memorial will take on Laval. Both matches take place Saturday morning at 11am AST at Dalplex.
