Huskies drop visiting Mounties 4-1

(Halifax, NS) Friday in AUS women's hockey action, the Saint Mary's Huskies defeated the Mount Allison Mounties 4-1 at Alumni Arena.

Both teams went scoreless in the first period. In the second period, Saint Mary's got on the board when Hannah Askin (Waterloo, ON) converted from the point at 5:23 to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead. Saint Mary's increased the lead when Nicole Blanche (Dunville, NL) scored from in close at 12:27 to make it 2-0 after two periods. In the third, the Mounties got it to within one when Kara Anthony (Toronto, ON) tallied from in close at 0:53 to make it 2-1. The Huskies responded when Laura Polak (Bedford, NS) potted a rebound into the net at 9:26 to regain the two goal lead at 3-1. Saint Mary's added some insurance when Hayley Hallihan (Miramichi, NB) scored off a rebound to bring the game to its final score of 4-1.

The Huskies outshot the Mounties 32-17. Rebecca Clark (Keswick, ON) made 16 saves to get the win for the Huskies. Keri Martin (Brampton, ON) stopped 28 shots in goal for the Mounties.

The Huskies are back in action next Thursday on the road against the Saint Francis Xavier X-Women at 7:00 pm. The Mounties' next game is next Saturday when they visit the Universite de Moncton Aigle Bleues at 2:00 pm.
