Blanche lifts Huskies to 2-1 OT win over UdeM

(Moncton, NB) – A goal by Nicole Blanche, at 3:40 of the second overtime period, gave the visiting Saint Mary's University Huskies (1-0-1) a 2-1 victory over the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues (1-0-1), Sunday, in an Atlantic University Sport women's hockey game at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena.

The Aigles Bleues can say thank you to their veteran goaltender and Subway player of the game, Gabrielle Forget, who faced 41 shots, including 14 in the third period for the close score. She faced many 2 on 1 situations, breakaways and screen shots. The game was fast on the ice between these two rivals.

There was no scoring in either the first or third periods. Hayley Hallihan did give the visitors a 1-0 lead at the 2:32 mark of the second period, but Katherine Dubuc (Cassandra Labrie, Marie-Pier Corriveau), on the power play, evened the score nine minutes later.

Rebecca Clark recorded the win in nets with 22 saves.

The Aigles Bleues are on the road next weekend with a Saturday game in Halifax against the Dalhousie University Tigers. Sunday, they are in Antigonish for a match-up with the St. Francis Xavier X-Women.

The Huskies travel to MTA on Friday, October 21 and then are home for their opener on Saturday at 7 p.m. vs UPEI.
