Huskies score 3 in third to top UdeM 3-1

(Halifax, NS) In AUS women's hockey action, the Saint Mary's Huskies defeated the Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleues 3-1 Saturday afternoon at Alumni Arena.

The two teams went scoreless in the first period.

The second period also produced no goals, leaving the game a 0-0 tie after two periods. In the third, the deadlock was finally broken when Marie-Pier Arsenault (Bonaventure, QC) scored from the circle on the powerplay at 2:23 to make it 1-0. The Huskies answered back when Breanna Lanceleve (Middle Sackville, NS) tallied from the circle at 7:16 to tie things up at 1-1. Saint Mary's immediately when ahead when Celine Van de Molen (Cochrane, AB) potted a marker from the top of the circle at 8:08 to make the score 2-1.

The Huskies sealed the deal when Sarah Douglas (Whitby, ON) scored a shorthanded empty netter at 19:50 to bring the game to its final score of 3-1.

The Aigles Bleues outshot the Huskies 23-16. Subway player of the game Rebecca Clark (Keswick, ON) made 22 saves to get the win for the Huskies. Gabrielle Forget (Joliette, QC) stopped 13 shots in goal for the Aigles Bleues.

Both teams are right back to action tomorrow. The Huskies host the St. Thomas Tommies at 3:00 pm and the Aigles Bleues visit the Dalhousie Tigers at 6:30 pm.
