Huskies cruise to 95-78 win over Capers

(HALIFAX, NS)—Kemar Alleyne poured in 25 points and added seven rebounds on Friday night, in Saint Mary's 95-78 victory over the visiting Cape Breton University Capers in Atlantic university sport men's basketball from the Homburg Centre.

Alleyne, a 6-2 guard from Scarborough, Ontario added four steals in only thirty minutes of action.

Cape Breton surprised Saint Mary's in the opening quarter with a 21-18 score after 10 minutes.

SMU used a 25-10 second quarter score and took a 43-31 lead into the locker room.

A closer third quarter saw SMU outscore CBU 27-24 in the frame and led 70-54 after thirty minutes.

SMU held a slim advantage 25-24 score in the fourth quarter and took the victory 95-78.

Martin Campbell (Upper Marlboro, Maryland) paced CBU's offence with 21 points and added seven points in the Caper's loss.

Also scoring for CBU were Kyle Hankins (Burlington, ON) with 12 points, and Mississauga native's Paul Watson had eight and Osman Omar had nine points off the Cape Breton bench.

Nico Brauner (Wiesbaden, Germany) finished with 17 points and Nikita Kasongo (Montreal, QC) had 15 in the win.

Osman Barrie (Ottawa, ON) and Brent Martindale (Kingston, ON) each had 11 points for SMU while Barrie hauled in 12 rebounds for a double-double.

Asher Lewis (Ajax, ON) had nine points off SMU's bench.

Saint Mary's improves to 10-6 while CBU falls to 2-15.

Both teams wrap up their weekend series with a 6 p.m. tip off Saturday February 17^th at the Homburg Centre as Saint Mary's acknowledges it's graduating senior players.
