Sea-Hawks top Panthers 6-2

The sixth place UPEI Panthers hosted the second place Memorial Sea-Hawks as they kicked off AUS women's soccer action this weekend.

The team's wasted no time trading chances early in the game searching for the first goal. The Panthers struck first as rookie Sarah MacVarish weaved through several Seahawk defenders before ricocheting a shot in off a defender for an own goal in the 11th minute. The Sea-Hawks stormed right back as Emily Bailey tied the game in the 12th. In the 29th Seahawk wingback Kiesha Younge stormed down the sideline and delivered a beautiful cross that was finished by the head of Emily Bailey for her second goal of the game. Spencer Wilkins and a UPEI own goal gave a halftime score of 4-1 for Memorial. The Panthers started the second half strong and cut the lead down on a long shot from Jennifer Balderston. Spencer Wilkins added her second of the game in the 76th before Jessie Noseworthy ended the game emphatically by blasting a shot off the crossbar and down for her league leading 11th goal.

The Sea-Hawks will travel to Mount Allison tomorrow to do battle with the ninth place Mounties.
