Axemen back on winning track with 4-0 win over Mounties

WOLFVILLE, N.S. - The Axemen soccer team improved to 4-1-3 with a convincing 4-0 win over the visiting Mount Allison Mounties.

Samuel Gillis (Halifax, N.S.) scored his second goal of the season and the game winner at the 19 minute mark of the first half.

In the closing five minutes of the first half, third year striker Matthew Berrigan (Halifax, N.S.) added an unassisted goal - his fourth of the season to give Acadia a 2-0 lead heading into the halftime.

Subway Player of the Game, Cochrane Noseworthy Smith (Wolfville, N.S.) pushed the lead to 3-0 21 minutes inot the second half. Jeremie Shabani (Montreal, Que.) assisted on Smith's third goal of the season.

Cooper Coats (Halifax, N.S.) hammered home the final goal of the night in the 85th minute to give Acadia an important win after a 3-0 loss to StFX prior to the Thanksgiving break.

Defender Matthew Poole (Halifax, N.S.) was named as the Mounties' Subway Player of the Game.

The Axemen will head to Saint Mary's on Sunday afternoon to take on the 1-4-4 Huskies, while the Mounties return home to host the 5-3-1 UPEI Panthers.
