Tigers and Axewomen tie at one

WOLFVILLE, N.S. – Despite nine shots and four landing on goal, the Axewomen soccer team had to settle for a 1-1 tie against the visiting Dalhousie Tigers.

Axewoman Jenna Boudreau (Halifax, N.S.) scored her third goal of the season at the 22 minute mark to give Acadia an early 1-0 lead. Boudreau took a clearing kick by a Dalhousie defender after a Katie Ross corner kick and found the lower corner of the net. VIDEO of GOAL>

The Tigers responded quickly three minutes later on a goal by Amanda Bowles (Burlington, Ont.) to tie the game which held until the end of the match. Bowles' free kick from 30 yards out caught the top corner of the net with no chance for Axewomen keeper Emma Connell (Hampton, N.B.) to make the save.

Tiger Hannah Noseworthy (St. John's, Nfld.) stopped four shots on goal and her counterpart, Emma Connell, made one save on two shots on goal.

Bowles was named the Dalhousie's Player of the Game, while Axewoman Emily Nickerson's (Coldbrook, N.S.) defensive effort was recognized as Acadia's Subway Player of the Game.

The Tigers (2-6-2) host the Saint Mary's Huskies (0-8-0) on Sunday, while the second place undefeated Axewomen (6-0-3) take on the first place and undefeated Cape Breton Capers (9-0-0) on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
