Atlantic University Sport proud to partner in unveiling of U Sports brand

(HALIFAX, N.S.) – Thursday was a significant day for university sport in Canada, as Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS)—the national governing body for university sport in Canada—officially announced its rebranding as U Sports.

U Sports provides an energetic new look for the national organization, and will serve to rally national support for university sport across the country.

“This is a landmark day for us. Effective today, we are U Sports,” said Graham Brown, the CEO of U Sports. “This is an important step towards a total transformation of our organization which started almost a year ago.

“Although the mission and the passion remain the same, the new brand will shine the spotlight on our dedicated student-athletes at our 56 universities across the country. Today’s announcement also aims to create a massive change in the way university sports are consumed in a fast-changing digital era.”

Atlantic University Sport—the governing body for university sport in Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Newfoundland—is proud, as a partner of U Sports, to share in the exciting future of university sport in Canada.

“I want to congratulate CEO Graham Brown and the U Sports Team on a successful launch,” said AUS executive director Phil Currie. “I believe it has started a new chapter in university sport in Canada and that, working together, we can collectively achieve great things. Atlantic University Sport is excited about the partnership opportunities that will arise from this initiative.”

Working with both U Sports, our fellow conferences—Ontario University Athletics (OUA), Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ) and Canada West—and the 56 universities we collectively represent, we are committed to better showcasing our outstanding student-athletes.

Atlantic University Sport will continue to provide a first-class experience for the thousands of student-athletes who compete at our 11 member institutions and strive to become AUS and national champions.

Thursday’s brand and name change is the first for the national body since June 2001, when the membership of the Canadian Interuniversity Athletic Union, established in 1961, voted to change the brand and name of the organization to Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS).
