Acadia's Veinot and Cape Breton's Omar named Subway AUS Athletes of the Week

(Halifax, N.S.) After helping their respective teams to weekend sweeps on the basketball court, Jayda Veinot of the Acadia Axewomen and Osman Omar of the CBU Capers are the Subway AUS Athletes of the Week for the week ending November 14.

Jayda Veinot of the Acadia women’s basketball team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female athlete of the week for the week ending November 14, 2021. 

The third-year science student from Port Williams, Nova Scotia was instrumental in the Axewomen’s two victories on the road last weekend, extending their winning streak to four games. In Friday's 65-46 win over UNB, Veinot scored 27 points, had eight rebounds and two blocks. The next day, she topped that performance by contributing a game-high 30 points and seven rebounds to the Axewomen's 68-61 win over the Reds. She was named Subway Player of the Game for her efforts.

Veinot is currently tied for the most points in both the AUS and U SPORTS, with 139.

Osman Omar of the Cape Breton University men’s basketball team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week for the week ending November 14, 2021. 

Omar, a fourth-year community studies student hailing from Mississauga, Ontario, helped lead the Capers to a pair of road victories over the UPEI Panthers last weekend. In Friday’s 91-71 win, the veteran guard finished with 28 points, including three three-pointers, five rebounds and two steals. On Saturday, he scored 29 points, with nine rebounds, one assist and one steal in the Capers 60-59 victory.

Omar played 38 minutes per game in both UPEI matchups and currently leads U SPORTS and the AUS in points, with 132.
