Cape Breton's Hailey MacLeod and UPEI's Owen Headrick named Subway AUS Athletes of the Week

(HALIFAX, N.S.) Cape Breton Capers women's basketball player Hailey MacLeod and UPEI Panthers men's hockey player Owen Headrick have been named the Subway AUS Athletes of the Week for their respective performances for this past week.

Hailey MacLeod of the Cape Breton Capers women’s basketball team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female athlete of the week for the week ending Feb. 2, 2020.

A first-year community studies student from Glace Bay, N.S., MacLeod earned Subway Player of the Game nods in two consecutive games as the Capers swept their weekend home games versus the Dalhousie Tigers and StFX X-Women.

Friday, the Capers topped the Tigers 83-65. MacLeod led the way with 20 points, seven rebounds and three steals off the bench.

Cape Breton downed StFX 72-64 Saturday in overtime. Coming off the bench again, MacLeod scored a game-high 25 points and added six rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block.

With the wins, the Capers clinched their spot in the 2020 AUS postseason.

Owen Headrick of the UPEI men’s hockey team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week for the week ending Feb. 2, 2020.

A fourth-year defenceman from Garden River, Ont., Headrick scored four goals in three games this past week as the Panthers clinched the final AUS playoff spot.

He scored his first goal in a rescheduled game Monday, Jan. 27 as the Panthers fell 5-4 to the Dalhousie Tigers in overtime.

On Friday night, the Panthers then downed the Tigers 4-3 in overtime in Halifax. Headrick scored two goals in regulation—both on the power play—and was named the Subway Player of the Game.

He scored his fourth goal of the week on Saturday as the Panthers took down the StFX X-Men 6-5 in overtime in Antigonish, N.S.

University: Acadia University
Sport: Women’s Soccer
Position: Keeper
Hometown: Newmarket, Ont.
Year of eligibility: Fifth

Sarah Charnock of the U SPORTS No. 7-ranked Acadia Axewomen soccer team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female athlete of the week for the week ending Sept. 22, 2019.

A fifth-year keeper from Newmarket, Ont., Charnock backstopped the Axewomen to two weekend wins over the Dalhousie Tigers and the U SPORTS No. 2-ranked Cape Breton Capers.

Acadia earned a 1-0 win over the Tigers Friday night in Wolfville, N.S. Charnock had two saves in the win.

She made another four saves Sunday as the Axewomen topped the two-time defending AUS champion Capers 2-1.  She was named Subway Player of the Game for her efforts.

Tane Caubo of the StFX X-Men soccer team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week for the week ending Sept. 22, 2019.

A fourth-year arts student from London, England, Caubo had eight points in two games this weekend for the X-Men.

In StFX’s 6-1 win over the Mount Allison Mounties Saturday in Sackville, N.B., he scored a hat trick, including the game-winning goal. He was named Subway Player of the Game for his efforts.

Sunday in Fredericton, N.B., the X-Men tied the U SPORTS No. 8-ranked UNB Reds 3-3. Caubo had two goals and an assist in the draw.
