Lauren Legault from the St. Thomas Tommies women’s hockey team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female athlete of the week for the week ending Dec. 2, 2018.
A third-year forward from Winnipeg, Man., Legault led the U SPORTS no. 5-ranked Tommies to a pair of wins this past week over the UNB Reds and the StFX X-Women.
On Wednesday night against crosstown rival UNB, Lauren won 10-of-15 faceoffs in a 2-1 comeback victory over the Reds.
In Friday night’s 2-1 shootout win over the U SPORTS no. 6-ranked StFX X-Women, the Tommies were trailing 1-0 midway through the third period. Legault then won a key draw in the offensive end, corralled the puck and slid a perfect pass to Mariah Carey to tie the game at 1-1. In the ensuing shootout, Legault would convert on both of her opportunities, including the deciding goal to clinch the victory.
Heading into the December break, the Tommies sit in first place with a 14-2-0 record and are currently riding a 10-game win streak. Legault has registered three goals and four assists in 14 games this season.

Academic program: Recreation and Sport Studies
Tyler Boland of the U SPORTS no. 1-ranked UNB Reds men’s hockey team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week for the week ending Dec. 2, 2018.
A second-year forward from St. John’s, Nfld., Boland picked up four points in a pair of weekend road wins for the Reds.
Boland was named the Subway Player of the Game after scoring two goals and adding an assist Friday night in Halifax as UNB defeated the no. 6-ranked Saint Mary’s Huskies by a score of 7-4. His first period power-play goal was also the 50th point of his AUS career.
Saturday, the Reds downed the Acadia Axemen by a score of 5-1 in Wolfville where Boland assisted on the game-winning goal.
Boland currently sits second in league scoring with 13 goals and 13 assists for 26 points in 18 games played. The Reds enter the exam break in first place with a 15-0-3 record and are the only team in the country without a loss in regulation play this season.
