Cape Breton's Brown and Waters named Subway AUS Athletes of the Week

(HALIFAX, N.S.) Cape Breton Capers midfielders Tamara Brown and Charlie Waters have been named the Subway AUS Athletes of the Week for their respective performances for this past week.

Tamara Brown of the Cape Breton Capers women’s soccer team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female athlete of the week for the week ending Nov. 5, 2017.

A fifth-year arts student from Whitby, Ont., Brown scored the game-winning goals in both the championship semifinal and the championship final, en route to Cape Breton’s 2017 AUS women’s soccer title win this past weekend in Antigonish, N.S.

The Capers earned a bye through to the AUS semifinals. Brown notched a hat trick in Friday’s 4-0 win over the UNB Varsity Reds—scoring the first, second and fourth Cape Breton goals. She was named Subway Player of the Game for her efforts.

She earned Subway Player of the Game nods a second time following Sunday’s 2-1 win over the Acadia Axewomen in the championship final. Brown netted the Capers’ second goal at 82:31 to secure the championship win. She was named championship MVP.

Earlier in the week, Brown was also recognized a 2017 AUS first team all-star for her performance in the regular season.

Charlie Waters of the Cape Breton Capers men’s soccer team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week for the week ending Nov. 5, 2017.

A first-year community studies student from Lancashire, England, Waters had a hand in all six Capers postseason goals as they earned victories in both the championship semifinal and final games to capture the 2017 AUS men’s soccer title.

Earning a bye to the AUS semifinals, Cape Breton faced off against the Acadia Axemen Friday night, claiming a 5-0 win. Waters scored two goals and had assists on the other three, earning the Subway Player of the Game honour for the Capers.

Cape Breton went on to earn a 1-0 win over the UNB Varsity Reds in Sunday’s championship final, with Waters posting another assist on the lone goal of the game.

He was named the championship MVP for his efforts. Earlier in the week, Waters was named the 2017 AUS rookie of the year for his performance during the regular season. He was also named a 2017 AUS first team all-star.
