Dalhousie's Ciprick and Saint Mary's Garlent named Subway AUS Athletes of the Week

(HALIFAX, N.S.) - Emma Ciprick of the Dalhousie Tigers women's volleyball team and Hunter Garlent of the Saint Mary's Huskies men's hockey team have been named the Subway AUS Athletes of the Week for their respective performances for this past week.

University: Dalhousie University
Sport: Women’s Volleyball
Position: Outside Hitter
Height: 5’8”
Hometown: Binscarth, Man.
Year of eligibility: Third
Academic program: Kinesiology

Emma Ciprick of the Dalhousie Tigers women’s volleyball team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female athlete of the week for the week ending Jan. 15, 2017.

A third-year kinesiology student from Binscarth, Man., Ciprick was named the Subway Player of the Game in both of the Tigers’ wins this past week.

She had 10 kills, 15 digs and three aces for 13.5 points in the Tigers 3-0 victory over the Saint Mary’s Huskies Wednesday night.

In Sunday’s 3-2 win over the Moncton Aigles Bleues, she had another five kills, and 14 digs.

Position: Forward
Height: 5’9”
Hometown: Thorold, Ont.
Year of eligibility: First
Academic program: Bachelor of Commerce

Hunter Garlent of the Saint Mary’s Huskies men’s hockey team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week for the week ending Jan. 15, 2017.

A first-year commerce student from Thorold, Ont., Garlent led the Huskies with six points in two weekend wins.

In their 4-3 overtime win over the U Sports No. 1-ranked UNB Varsity Reds, he had a goal and two assists.

In Saturday’s 3-2 overtime win over the UPEI Panthers, he had two assists in regulation and then notched the game-winning goal in overtime.

Garlent is currently first in team scoring and fifth in AUS scoring with 30 points.
