StFX's McDaid and Cape Breton's Bent named Subway AUS Athletes of the Week

(HALIFAX, N.S.) - Sabrina McDaid of the StFX X-Women rugby team and Corey Bent of the Cape Breton Capers men's soccer team have been named the Subway AUS Athletes of the Week for their respective performances for this past week.

Sabrina McDaid of the 2016 national champion StFX X-Women is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female athlete of the week for the week ending Nov. 6, 2016.

A fifth-year arts student from Scarborough, Ont., McDaid was named championship MVP of the U Sports national rugby championship held this past weekend at the University of Victoria.

She scored 19 points—eight conversions and one penalty goal—in three weekend wins as the X-Women took home the national championship banner for the fifth time in the past 10 years. McDaid was also named to the championship all-star team.

Corey Bent of the Cape Breton Capers men’s soccer team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week for the week ending Nov. 6, 2016.

A first-year community studies student from Preston, United Kingdom, Bent was named championship MVP of the 2016 Subway AUS Men’s Soccer Championship held this past weekend at UNB.

Bent scored both of Cape Breton’s goals in their 2-1 semifinal win over the StFX X-Men in extra time on Friday. He then had another strong offensive performance in Sunday’s 3-1 championship final win over the Acadia Axemen.

With the win, the Capers captured their fourth AUS men’s soccer banner in 10 years. They now move on to compete in the national championship being hosted this week by Guelph University.
