Memorial's Noseworthy and Dalhousie's Bekkers named Subway AUS Athletes of the Week

(HALIFAX, N.S.) - Jessie Noseworthy of the Memorial Sea-Hawks women's soccer team and Freddy Bekkers of the Dalhousie Tigers men's soccer team have been named the Subway AUS Athletes of the Week for their respective performances for this past week.

Year of eligibility: Fourth
Academic program: Nursing

Jessie Noseworthy of the Memorial Sea-Hawks women’s soccer team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female athlete of the week for the week ending Sept. 18, 2016.

A fourth-year nursing student from St. John’s, N.L., Noseworthy netted three goals and an assist in two weekend road wins for Memorial.

The Sea-Hawks forward notched her first goal of the weekend in Saturday’s 4-1 win over UNB in Fredericton.

In Sunday’s 5-1 victory over the Moncton Aigles Bleues, she contributed two goals—including the game winner—and added an assist. She earned Subway Player of the Game honours for her performance.

Noseworthy currently leads the conference in points so far this season with seven. She is also tied for first in goals with five on the season.

Freddy Bekkers of the Dalhousie Tigers men’s soccer team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week for the week ending Sept. 18, 2016.

A second-year engineering student from Halifax, Bekkers notched three goals in one win and one tie at home this past weekend.

In Saturday’s 3-1 victory over the CIS No. 8-ranked Cape Breton Capers, Bekkers scored two goals, including the game winner. He was named Subway Player of the Game for his efforts.

The Tigers midfielder then scored his team’s lone marker in a 1-1 draw versus the StFX X-Men on Sunday.

Bekkers currently sits second in AUS scoring with five points on the season—four goals and one assist.
