Saint Mary's Schell and StFX's Chiarlitti named Subway AUS Athletes of the Week

(HALIFAX, N.S.) - Caitlyn Schell of the Saint Mary's Huskies women's hockey team and Nathan Chiarlitti of the StFX X-Men hockey team have been named the Subway AUS Athletes of the Week for their respective performances for this past week.

Caitlyn Schell of the Saint Mary’s Huskies women’s hockey team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female athlete of the week for the week ending March 13, 2016.

A fourth-year commerce student from Waterford, Ont., Schell was named MVP of the Subway AUS Women’s Hockey Championship after the Saint Mary’s Huskies earned the 2016 AUS title this week.

The Huskies claimed a 5-1 win over the St. Thomas Tommies in Game 3 of the best-of-three final playoff series this past Tuesday at Alumni Arena in Halifax, N.S.

Schell notched two goals in the win for the Huskies. In six playoff games played this postseason, she boasted five goals, one assist, 25 shots and a plus-minus rating of +6.

Nathan Chiarlitti of the St. Francis Xavier X-Men hockey team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week for the week ending March 13, 2016.

A fourth-year human kinetics student in his third year of eligibility from Maple, Ont., Chiarlitti was named MVP of the 2016 Subway AUS Men’s Hockey Championship.

The X-Men completed a two-game sweep of the UNB Varsity Reds in the playoff final series this past Wednesday in Antigonish, N.S. With the win, StFX claimed the AUS men’s hockey title for the first time since 2004.

Chiarlitti notched two goals in Game 2, the first and third goals of the game for StFX. In six playoff games this postseason, he had three goals, four assists and 20 shots.

Following the regular season, Chiarlitti was named to the AUS second team all-star squad and was also the recipient of the Godfrey Award for student-athlete community service.
