Dalhousie's Lenderyou and Dyke named Subway AUS Athletes of the Week

(HALIFAX, N.S.) - Phoebe Lenderyou of the Dalhousie Tigers women's swim team and Gavin Dyke of the Dalhousie Tigers men's swim team have been named the Subway AUS Athletes of the Week for their respective performances for this past week.

Phoebe Lenderyou of the Dalhousie Tigers women’s swim team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female athlete of the week for the week ending Feb. 14, 2016.

A second-year management student from Newcastle, England, Lenderyou was named the Subway Swimmer of the Meet at the Subway AUS Women’s Swimming Championship this past weekend in Halifax.

She led the Tigers to their 15th consecutive AUS swimming championship title over the weekend, collecting seven gold medals.

Lenderyou won the 100 and 200m backstroke, 100m butterfly and 200m IM events. She set new Dalhousie records in all four events and set new AUS records in the 100m butterfly, 200m backstroke and 200m IM events. She added three more gold medals as part of the Tigers’ three relay winning teams, including the 4x100m, setting a new AUS record.

Lenderyou was also named the AUS female swimmer of the year at Friday’s awards luncheon.

Gavin Dyke of the Dalhousie Tigers men’s swim team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week for the week ending Feb. 14, 2016.

A third-year arts student from Mount Pearl, N.L., Dyke was named the Subway Swimmer of the Meet at the Subway AUS Men’s Swimming Championship held this past weekend at Dalhousie.

He led the Tigers to their 18th consecutive AUS swimming championship title this past weekend.

Dyke collected seven gold medals this weekend including wins in all three freestyle events (50m, 100m & 200m) and the 100m butterfly. He set new AUS and Dalhousie records in both the 100 and 200m freestyle events. He was also a member of all three of Dalhousie’s gold medal winning relay teams.

In addition to swimmer of the meet honours, Dyke was also named AUS male swimmer of the year at Friday’s championship banquet.
