Acadia's Anderson and UNB's Beauvillier named Subway AUS Athletes of the Week

(HALIFAX, N.S.) - Paloma Anderson of the Acadia Axewomen basketball team and Francis Beauvillier of the UNB Varsity Reds men's hockey team have been named the Subway AUS Athletes of the Week for their respective performances for this past week.

Paloma Anderson of the Acadia Axewomen’s basketball team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female athlete of the week for the week ending Jan. 24, 2016.

A third-year arts student from Phoenix, Arizona, Anderson led the undefeated Axewomen to two weekend victories over the StFX X-Women.

In Wednesday’s 97-59 win in Wolfville, N.S., the 5-foot-1 guard set a new school record for points in a game with 41. She also contributed 13 rebounds, six assists and four steals in the victory.

Her performance also places her sixth in the AUS all-time record books for the most points in a single game.

In Saturday evening’s 88-62 win over the X-Women in Antigonish, N.S., Anderson had another 17 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals.

Anderson currently leads both the Atlantic conference and the nation in points per game with 21.8. She also leads the CIS in steals so far this season with 44.

Francis Beauvillier of the UNB Varsity Reds men’s hockey team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week for the week ending Jan. 24, 2016.

A second-year business administration student from St. Hyacinthe, Que., Beauvillier had three goals in two weekend road wins for the Varsity Reds this past weekend.

He scored two goals in Friday’s 6-5 win over the Saint Mary’s Huskies in Halifax. He then notched the game-winning marker Saturday as UNB defeated the CIS No. 1-ranked Acadia Axemen 4-0 in Wolfville, N.S.
