(HALIFAX, N.S.) - Tessa Stammberger of the Dalhousie Tigers women's basketball team and Brett Thompson of the Acadia Axemen hockey team have been named the Subway AUS Athletes of the Week for their respective performances for this past week.

Tessa Stammberger of the Dalhousie Tigers women’s basketball team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female athlete of the week for the week ending Jan. 10, 2016.
A fifth-year kinesiology student from Kensington, P.E.I., Stammberger had 52 points, 15 rebounds, four assists and three steals in two weekend games for the Tigers.
In Wednesday’s 65-56 loss to the Saint Mary’s Huskies, the 5-foot-11 forward managed 22 points and six rebounds. In their 69-57 victory Friday evening over the St. Francis Xavier X-Women, she posted 30 points and nine rebounds.
Stammberger is currently leading the Tigers with 20.4 points per game, good for second most in the Atlantic conference.

The fourth-year forward from Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. managed three goals and three assists for the Axemen in two weekend wins at home.
In Friday night’s 7-2 win over the St. Thomas Tommies, Thompson posted two goals and two assists. He added another goal and an assist to his weekend tally Saturday as the Axemen topped the Aigles Bleus 8-2.
