Profile:

Brandon Leyh is heading into his third year with the Mount Allison Mounties with high expectations and looking to make it three straight playoff appearances as a starting Quarterback.

As the 2014 season approaches, his focus remains on the process, "The goal for this season is to improve on what we did last season.  To get off to a better start than last year and to get the momentum early and ride it throughout the year."

With a slow start to 2013, Leyh caught fire the second half of the season and eventually was voted as the AUS All-Star at the Quarterback position in just his second season.  His two seasons as the starter earned him a trip to Saskatchewan to participate in the CFL's QB Internship program.

Leyh looks at 2014 as another step in the learning process of a CIS Quarterback.

"My number one goal is just to be more consistent.  I want to minimize my mistakes and learn from the mistakes that I do happen to make.  I never want to make the same mistake twice."

Leyh's approach to improvement was seen in 2013 as his first four starts saw him complete 44% of his passes as opposed to his final three regular season starts where he completed 60%.

After finishing his final year at St. Thomas More in BC, Brandon began to gain valuable experience in the CJFL with the Langley Rams.  Brandon's final season ended with a stellar 12 to 1 TD/INT ratio that caught the eye of the Mounties coaches.

While football is important to Leyh, his path to Mount Allison had a strong academic component, "Academics had a lot of influence on why I chose Mount Allison.  The reputation they have is known nation-wide."

Entering just his third season, Brandon's top moment in a young career is hard to beat, "My most memorable moment has to be when I took the final snap and took a knee to win the Loney Bowl.  It's a feeling that I will never forget."

Leyh came up big in the Loney Bowl, throwing the game tying touchdown with five minutes left in the fourth quarter while finishing 15-for-23 with 245 yards and a TD.

Mount Allison Head Coach Kelly Jeffrey on Brandon Leyh:

"Brandon has been an excellent fit into our program and more specifically our offense.  We put a lot of decisions on our Quarterback on any given play and his understanding of what we are trying to do is like having another coach on the field."

"With another year under him, he has a great opportunity to take another step forward in his growth as a leader and his consistency.  He is really starting to understand when it's time to take your shots and when it's time to throw it away and live for another down.""

"Brandon arrived in our program ready to compete and take on any challenge given to him.  His expectations for his performance every week are extremely high.  He competes at everything that he does, football, school, work.  He has a great mentality for a Quarterback and is great teammate to the rest of the team."
