BecAUSe We Care: V-Reds raise close to $11,000 for Breast Cancer

(FREDERICTON, N.B.) - The UNB Varsity Reds are proud to announce another successful Stewart McKelvey ‘Think Pink’ Weekend at the Richard J. Currie Center and the Aitken University Centre.

Just under $11,000 was raised in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation between the sixth annual Shoot for the Cure and Pink in the Rink effort.

"I am very excited about the amount we were able to raise for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. So many people worked very hard to make this happen,” said Jeff Speedy, Shoot for the Cure chair and UNB women’s basketball head coach.

“Thanks to Stewart McKelvey, all of our student-athletes, volunteers, parents and athletic director John Richard ... without working together and mutual support this would not have been possible. Hopefully we get to celebrate finding a cure for this brutal disease very soon," continued Speedy.

The Varsity Reds would like to give special thanks to Kylee Speedy and basketball players Claire Colborne and Colleen Daley along with women’s volleyball assistant coach Erin Crossland and player Jodi McGill for cutting their hair to raise money for “Locks for Love”.

Finally, the Varsity Reds would like to thank all of the volunteers, players, parents and fans who supported the CBCF initiative.
