BecAUSe We Care: Varsity Reds raise over $1,400 for charity at annual date auction.

(FREDERICTON, N.B.) - The UNB Varsity Reds held their sixth annual Date Auction at the Student Union Building at the end of March and raised over $1,400 for charity.

This brings the total funds raised for the date auctions over the years to just short of $6,500, all of which has been donated to various charities.

Throughout the past two seasons, varsity student-athletes at the University of New Brunswick have assisted with several events for ‘Right to Play’ and the $1,410 raised from this year’s UNB date auction was added to the other fundraising initiatives of the campus branch of the organization.

This year’s date auction was organized by Will Allen a member of UNB men’s soccer team and their representative to the athletes’ council.

“I’m very appreciative of the efforts of our student-athletes to raise funds for this very worthy cause,” commented Melissa Foster, a member of the V-Reds women’s basketball team and co-president of UNB’s Right to Play group.

Right to Play’s mission is to improve the lives of children in some of the most disadvantaged areas of the world by using the power of sport and play for development, health and peace.
